The Carpenters Horizon 1975 Gold RIAA Award

The Carpenters Horizon Gold RIAA Award - A&M Records

On June 17, 1975, the Recording Industry of America issued the Gold record award to the Carpenters and A&M Records for selling 500,000 units of their Horizon record in the United States. This award is the actual award that given to A&M Records back in 1975, and was on display at their offices in Hollywood for several years. I was lucky enough to purchase it a couple of years ago from a dealer that was selling itmes for a former A&M records executive. During this era, all of the Gold and Platinum Awards were made by the New York Frame & Picture Company exclusively for the RIAA. The Horizon album finally went Platinum (1,000,000 units) on April 16, 1998. The Carpenters have been a huge musical influence on me, and you can find out more about that on my Carpenters Music Influence page. By the way, the Karen Carpenter picture on the Horizon album cover really does seem to reflect her true personality at that particular time.
